Fancy a free swim?
Does your club or organisation need funds?
Then why not join the Lions sponsored swim evening.
Lions in partnership with Spalding Amateur Swimming club are hosting the event at the Spalding pool on Tuesday 5th October 2010 at 6.30pm to 8.30pm
This is a great opportunity for clubs and organisations to get together and raise funding.
Lions will split any sponsor monies 50/50 with a charity of your choice or your club/organisation
You don’t have to be a great swimmer, we will cater for all abilities from the age 5 years as long as you can swim.
The idea is to swim as far as you can in 20 minutes with a target of 30 lengths for the more athletic.
We will take younger children in the learner pool to do their swim. Sponsorship is per length swam or a donation for distance covered.
Forms can be obtained from the following:

Pumpkin Parade Scarecrow Competition
Radar Challenge Sponsored Events day
Spalding Lions, South Holland Rotary, Spalding Cycle club and the Nene Valley Harriers running club joined together and put on a unique day of events on the new A16 bypass link road at Crowland on Sunday 21 March.
It was a great turn out with the weather in our favour and support from Morgan est., the road builders, which was second to none. The local paper Spalding Guardian and Tulip Fm our local radio station supported the event on the day and for several weeks prior, helped to make it a successful day for all.
Our local PHAB club was running shuttle buses to get participants from the car parks to the start line area and St John Ambulance covering the event with medical support, our thanks goes to them.
As part of our community project work, Lions organized free Diabetes testing day with Silver Star Charity who came along with their mobile testing unit which was located at the start line area, this proved very successful with queues of people waiting for testing most of the day.
Four events took place during the day starting with a 3K fun run involving 72 Runners. This was quickly followed by a 10K serious road race which many or the runners produced personal best times, 157 runners entered.
The cycle ride was the most supported event with 277 entered in the 12K family cycle ride with an age range from 5 to 85. One 5 year old little girl completed the full 12k distance on her little cycle, she was 2k behind the leaders towards the end, but refused any assistance of a lift. The 5K walk was delayed until this little girl reached the finish line to a rousing cheer and applause. The 5k walk had 275 walkers including a bed push from the Johnson Team all having a fun time.
Many of the walkers were walking for their own personal charities with a 50/50 split to Radar Challenge event.
I cannot be exact at the moment as the monies have still to come in but with the amount of pledges we have it looks like a total amount is in excess of £10,000 raised for good causes.
On behalf of Lions I would like to say many thanks for the massive support we received from the general public and various organizations that supported our joint project.
Many thanks to you all.

"Spectacle collection for Third World Sight"
Lions Club International is the world's largest organisation dedicated to eradicating preventable and reversible forms of blindness. Lions Clubs also collect and distribute around 3 million pairs of spectacles every year to needy people in India, The Third World and African nations. In 1998 Lions Clubs International launched World Sight Day to educate the world about the need and ability to conquer blindness. Help us to help someone to see clearly.
If you have a pair of spectacles you no longer need or want, you can help someone in the Third World to see. Just send them to us (even if they are broken).Collection points are in:- Molsons Opticians Spalding and Donington, Specs for Less in Spalding, Holbeach and The Deepings, the Doctors Surgeries in Spalding Gosberton and Kirton, Pinchbeck P.O, Sharpes Butchers Gosberton, Stradlings Holbeach and Bourne and via any Lion member. Each year Spalding Lions collects around 5000 pairs of Spectacles for reuse.
Should you wish to donate monies towards the provision of an eye camp where preventable blindness is treated by Lions sponsored professionals then please forward cheques made payable to Spalding Lions to; Spalding Lions, c/o 6 Church Street, Pinchbeck, Spalding PE11 3UA.
Your continued support is needed and greatly appreciated.
